Travel to Uppsala

Uppsala is easy to get to and also a city where getting around is very straightforward. It is a very compact, pedestrian-friendly city and most of the places that you will want to visit are in walking distance from the center. Many international visitors fly in to Arlanda Airport which is situated between Stockholm and Uppsala.

From Arlanda Airport

Uppsala is 18 minutes from Arlanda International Airport by train. There are regular departures and you can look at the timetable and make your reservation on line sj.se or simply buy a ticket on arrival from one of the ticket dispensers.

There are also airport buses approximately every 30 minutes between 3 a.m. and 12 midnight. The public transport company Upplands Lokaltrafik (UL) runs the airport coach route 801 between Arlanda and Uppsala.

The three major Uppsala taxi companies offer a fixed price from the airport. Ask the driver about this before you start your journey.

You will soon notice that most of the locals get around by bike. As a tourist, you too can experience the city on two wheels. Companies such as SkiTotal (Dragarbrunnsgatan 46) rent out both bikes and cycle helmets.  A bike map is available for download or you can pick one up at Uppsala Tourist Center.

Are you planning to visit attractions a little further out of town, such as Gamla Uppsala? If so, at the Upplands Lokaltrafik Center in the station you can buy a smartcard for the local bus service. It’s convenient and you will save money. Ticket prices are considerably cheaper. If need be, you can later add extra funds to your card at the Pressbyrån shops in town.

There is a taxi rank at the station. Swedish taxis always accept payment by credit card.
